EXPRESS to XML Schema Converter

Overview:

The EXPRESS to XML Schema Converter (EXC) is a framework that converts EXPRESS schema information to XML meta model and other schema format such as SQL DDL (Data Definition Language). EXC converts EXPRESS format to an intermediate XML meta model format. XSLT and XML parser driven program convert the intermediate XML meta model to other meta model format, i.e. SQL, ifcXML, BLIS-XML.

Components:

EXPRESS to XML Schema Converter (EXC)
This software component converts EXPRESS (ISO-10303-11) format to the intermediate XML Meta Model format.
Intermediate XML Meta Model Format
The DTD defined by EuroSTEP Limited is used for the intermediate XML Meta Model format. This DTD can contains overall information from EXPRESS and the element structure is similar to EXPRESS language syntax. This DTD is also similar to EXPRESS late binding markup language in STEP Part 28.
Meta Model Conversion (MMC) Modules
This module converts the Intermediate Meta Model data to the Secondary Meta Model data. XSLT and XML parser driven applet will be used for this module development. In this project time frame, following MMC module will be realized:

- SQL DDL for Access 2000
- BLIS-XML Schema[Link]
- Meta Model Dictionary for IFC Model Server
Secondary Meta Model Format
Following meta model formats are candidates.
