COVE creates a product model of a building. In addition to 3D shape, also the technical data of building objects and relationships between them are stored.
The product model can be used as input to various other applications, primarily to cost estimation, scheduling and resource planning.
The user interface is very similar to a CAD system. In fact, the system uses AutoCad as a graphical user interface. All user commands are passed "through" AutoCad to the product modeller kernel which controls AutoCad to create graphics.
The main difference to geometrically oriented CAD is that the user interface is focused on the technical specification of building objects rather than the plain graphical presentation.
