Project summary:

The virtual reality is a user interface of the next generation. It also is a tool for managing the complexity of community planning. It can be used in geographical information, planning and maintenance applications as well as a presentation technique. The benefits of the virtual reality are e.g. tri dimensionality, interactivity and the feeling of the reality.

The aim of the project is to develop the basic technique for the virtual reality and to investigate its applicability, usability and methods in applications of community planning. With the help of the results of the research and the basic technology, software products for Novapoint/VID software group will be developed.

The products will make the new technology available for the public. Instead of the traditional two-dimensional presentation techniques, in the virtual reality structures can be viewed and edited in the final format from the point of view of the present and the future user. The planning process will become more diverse and the quality of the plans will improve. The plans can be simulated and possibility for mistakes will reduce. The communication will become more efficient in information networking processes.
